Gina Edwards loves the great outdoors. Whether hiking, bicycling or skiing, her
Anchorage, Alaska home gives her the opportunity to enjoy nature. Her fascination
with the outdoors is reflected in her colorful oil paintings, often of animals in
unique poses. Gina says of her art, "I feel art is candy for the eyes. It's fun, colorful;
it creates emotion and daydreams. Necessary for life? No, but it sure makes life
better. Animals are my favorite subject. I am always excited to see a creature full of
energy emerge from a blank canvas and form it's own personality. Every creature
has something worth noting, worth admiring, something to make us think or
smile." Gina studied art at Phillips University in Oklahoma and has oil painting art
displayed in homes and businesses across the country. She would love to create an
original oil painting just for you. Look through her art below.

"Leap Frog"
Oil painting by Gina Edwards
(prints available

I tend to enjoy very crisp and defined lines in my paintings.  That can be a
challenge when you are trying to create something with depth.  I keep sharpening
lines and colors until everything is in the foreground.
I knew having a believable background for this painting would require soft,
muted shapes and colors.  It was a beautiful, sunny day when I decided to start.  I
placed my easel on the deck in the shadows of my trees.   Every where a
shadowed branch landed on my canvas, I painted it in.  It was almost like
projecting an image on the wall and tracing it.  I traced on the light and dark
patterns from the sun and trees.  When I stepped back to see how it looked I
realized it looked TERRIBLE!  Frustrated I hung it on the drying wall and walked
away.
The next day I realized I had achieved my goal.  It is suppose to look, well, kind
of like nothing.  I added some leaves and trunks, a tweak here and there and I
had my background.  It pulls you into the woods, as if the path just keeps going.
I should have known nature knew what it was doing.  Whenever I look at this
painting I always think of that lesson during a sunny day on the deck.
